A Florida man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of transgender TikTok influencer Shanice 'Sassystar' Williams, known online as 'Girlalala.' The suspect, 34-year-old Shanoyd Whyte, was identified by the Broward Sheriff’s Office as the victim's boyfriend.
Williams, 29, was found deceased in her Lauderdale Lakes apartment on November 19 after family members requested a wellness check, having been unable to contact her for several days. According to the medical examiner's office, she died from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the murder occurred on November 15.
Detectives identified Whyte as the primary suspect through surveillance footage and mobile phone data. Arrest documents detail how security video allegedly showed Whyte entering and leaving Williams' apartment around the time she was killed. He was reportedly the only person seen entering her unit who did not live there during that period.
Following the murder, Whyte allegedly appeared in a TikTok Live video under a different username, where he reportedly made a confession. According to reports, during the livestream he stated he had "done something bad" and displayed a firearm. Details of the man arrested in the influencer's murder quickly spread online as followers pieced together the events. Williams had built a significant following on social media, where she shared aspects of her life and was a visible figure in the online LGBTQ+ community.
Whyte was apprehended on November 22 in West Palm Beach by the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force. He is currently being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail. While a motive has not been officially released by authorities, reports suggest the crime may be linked to a domestic dispute that escalated.
