A 26-year-old Australian man, Johnson Wen, has been sentenced to nine days in jail for public nuisance after he jumped a barricade and rushed toward actress Ariana Grande. The incident occurred on November 13 during the premiere of the movie "Wicked: For Good" at Universal Studios Singapore.
Viral video footage shows Wen, also known as "Pyjama Man" online, breaking through a security line and lunging at Grande on the event's yellow carpet. He managed to put his arm around the actress before her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, quickly intervened, pulling Grande away from him as security guards apprehended him. The event caused significant commotion and prompted immediate action from law enforcement. Wen was arrested hours later and charged with being a public nuisance by a Singapore court the following day.
During the sentencing on November 17, Singapore District Judge Christopher Goh described Wen's actions as "premeditated." According to reports from Australian media outlet 9Celebrity, the judge highlighted a concerning "pattern of behaviour, which suggests that you will do it again." Wen is known for similar stunts involving celebrities, which he often posts on his social media accounts. Following the incident with Grande, he shared a video of the encounter on his Instagram and TikTok pages with a caption directed at the actress.
This was not Wen's first time disrupting a major public event. His social media history includes clips of him crashing other celebrity appearances, including a Katy Perry concert. For the charge of causing a public nuisance, Wen could have faced a jail term of up to three months, a fine, or both. Following his conviction and sentencing to nine days' jail, officials confirmed he would also be barred from re-entering Singapore.
