Morgan Geyser, one of the two individuals convicted in the notorious 2014 "Slender Man" stabbing case, has been reported missing after absconding from her group home in Madison, Wisconsin. Authorities were alerted on Saturday, November 22, after Geyser, now 23, cut off her court-ordered GPS monitoring bracelet and left the facility.
The Madison Police Department has issued an alert and is actively searching for Geyser. She was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, leggings, and black boots. In a statement, police advised the public not to approach her but to call 911 if she is sighted. Despite the violent nature of her past crime, authorities have stated they do not currently believe she poses a danger to the community. A spokesperson for the victim, Payton Leutner, confirmed that her family has been notified of Geyser's disappearance.
In 2014, when Geyser and Anissa Weier were both 12 years old, they lured their classmate Payton Leutner into a wooded area in Waukesha and stabbed her 19 times. They later told investigators the attack was an attempt to become proxies for the fictional internet horror character known as Slender Man. Leutner survived the assault after crawling to a nearby road for help. Geyser was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and was committed to a state psychiatric hospital. Her co-defendant, Weier, was granted a conditional release in 2021.
Earlier in 2025, a Waukesha County judge granted Geyser conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, a decision that was opposed by prosecutors. Medical experts testified that her mental condition had improved and she was no longer a threat. She was subsequently moved to the Madison group home in September as part of a court-approved transition plan that included continued treatment and GPS monitoring. The disappearance marks a significant setback in her monitored reintegration and has renewed public attention on the case that drew international headlines for its intersection of internet folklore and real-world violence.
