An 11-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday morning in Henderson, Nevada, in what authorities have described as a senseless act of road rage. The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. as the child was being driven to school by his mother on the 215 Beltway near Gibson Road.
Henderson Police Department officials stated that the mother's vehicle was involved in a road rage encounter with another car. The driver of the second vehicle allegedly fired a single shot into the family's car, striking the boy. The mother pulled over to the side of the highway to render aid, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Following an intensive investigation, authorities arrested a suspect later the same day. The alleged shooter has been identified as 27-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Henderson Detention Center. Johns faces charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. Investigators used traffic camera footage and witness statements to locate his dark blue sedan.
