Jake Haro, the father of a 7-month-old baby who vanished in August, was sentenced on Monday, November 3, to 25 years to life in state prison for his son's murder. The sentencing comes after Haro pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse charges on October 16, a move that preempted a lengthy trial. The case has garnered significant attention, marked by the tragic fact that the body of baby Emmanuel Haro has never been found.
The Riverside County District Attorney's Office confirmed the plea and sentence. According to the details of the plea agreement, Haro admitted his culpability in the death of his son. The investigation began in August 2025 after the Riverside County Sheriff's Department was alerted that Emmanuel was missing from his family's home in Cabazon. Both Jake Haro and the baby's mother, Rebecca Haro, were arrested shortly thereafter on suspicion of murder.
Authorities conducted multiple large-scale searches for the infant's remains, focusing on areas in Moreno Valley along the 60 Freeway. During one of these operations, Jake Haro was seen accompanying investigators, but the efforts yielded no results. The case has proceeded through the courts despite extensive search efforts failing to locate Emmanuel, leaving the community and family without closure.
While Jake Haro has been sentenced to 25 years to life, the legal proceedings for the baby's mother, Rebecca Haro, are ongoing. She has pleaded not guilty to murder and child abuse charges and is scheduled to appear in court again in December. District Attorney Mike Hestrin's office has stated its commitment to securing justice for Emmanuel, even as the search for him continues.
