A former vice-principal at Mars Elementary School in Berrien Springs, Michigan, has been arrested on felony charges of child seduction. Mart Daly was taken into custody in Berrien County on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, based on a warrant issued by the St. Joseph County Special Victims Unit in Indiana, where the alleged crimes occurred.
The investigation into Daly began after Indiana authorities alerted Berrien Springs Public Schools on October 30. The district immediately placed him on administrative leave. Daly subsequently resigned from his position on November 8. In a letter to the community, the school district stressed that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and assured parents that the allegations are not connected to any current or former students at Berrien Springs schools.
Court documents reveal that Daly faces three felony counts of child seduction. According to reports from multiple news outlets, the alleged incidents involving his adopted daughter are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2024. Daly is currently being held in the Berrien County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond, awaiting extradition to Indiana to face the charges.
This case highlights the strict legal and ethical responsibilities placed upon educational institutions. State and federal laws mandate clear protocols schools must follow when educator misconduct is alleged, requiring immediate reporting and preventive actions to protect students. These regulations also aim to prevent individuals accused of misconduct from obtaining employment in other school districts, a practice commonly referred to as “passing the trash.” School districts are required to conduct thorough background checks and maintain transparent hiring practices to ensure student safety.
