A manhunt is underway in Wisconsin for Morgan Geyser, one of two individuals convicted in the 2014 “Slender Man” stabbing case. Geyser, 23, was reported missing on Sunday, November 23, after she cut off her GPS monitoring device and fled a supervised group home in Madison. The Madison Police Department confirmed that her severed monitoring bracelet was discovered, prompting a statewide search for her whereabouts. Authorities have urged the public to contact them with any information.

Geyser had been residing at the group home since September 2025 as part of a conditional release plan approved earlier this year. The release came after she spent nearly a decade in a state psychiatric hospital. In January, medical experts testified that she no longer posed a significant threat to the public, leading a judge to grant her release under strict supervision, which included GPS tracking and continued mental health treatment. Prosecutors had initially petitioned to block her release, but the court ultimately sided with the defense's medical assessments.

The case that brought Geyser to international attention occurred in May 2014 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. At just 12 years old, Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, lured their classmate Payton Leutner into a wooded park and stabbed her 19 times. They later told investigators they committed the act to appease or become proxies for the fictional online horror character known as Slender Man. Leutner miraculously survived after crawling to a nearby path where she was found by a cyclist.

Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, leading to a 40-year commitment in a mental health institution. Weier, who also pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, was granted conditional release in 2021. Geyser’s disappearance raises new concerns about her stability and has put law enforcement on high alert across the state. Police have not stated whether they believe she is a danger to herself or others but are treating her as a high-risk missing person. According to a bulletin from Madison police, she was last seen wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and glasses.
