A multi-agency effort in Florida named "Operation Dragon Eye" has resulted in the recovery of 60 "critically missing" children, in what officials are calling the most successful child rescue operation in United States history. The two-week initiative, led by the U.S. Marshals Service, focused on the Tampa Bay area, specifically Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties.
The operation, which concluded with a press conference on June 23, 2025, also led to the arrest of eight individuals. According to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, the suspects face a range of serious charges, including human trafficking, child endangerment, drug possession, and drug trafficking. The recovered children, whose ages ranged from 9 to 17, were considered to be at high risk for exploitation, including trafficking and abuse. The details of the multi-agency initiative highlight the collaborative nature of the effort involving federal, state, and local law enforcement partners.
In an official press release from the U.S. Marshals Service, the agency confirmed the scope and success of the mission. The operation was designed to locate and recover children identified as being among the most vulnerable. These cases often involve runaways who can quickly become victims of violent crime and exploitation. The success of Operation Dragon Eye underscores the critical role of coordinated law enforcement actions in tackling such complex cases.
Following the recoveries, the focus now shifts to providing support for the children. Many were found in dangerous situations and require extensive care and resources to address the trauma they have experienced. Experts and officials stress the challenges in supporting rescued children, which involves connecting them with medical services, psychological counseling, and safe housing. This next phase is crucial to ensuring their long-term safety and well-being after being rescued from perilous circumstances.
