The suspected gunman in a double homicide that took place in Port St. Lucie over the weekend has died, authorities confirmed on Monday. Police identified the man as 38-year-old Carlos Orellana-Marquez. He succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a local hospital, closing the primary criminal investigation into the deaths of two other men.
The incident unfolded on Sunday, November 9, when Port St. Lucie Police responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 2700 block of Southeast Sneed Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men deceased at the scene. The victims were later identified as 33-year-old Omar Masso and 32-year-old Andy Gonzalez, both of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators also found Orellana-Marquez at the residence with a critical, self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a regional hospital for medical treatment. However, law enforcement sources confirmed the suspect later died from his injuries, and the case is now being investigated as a murder-suicide.
According to police statements, the preliminary investigation into the deadly shooting suggests the incident stemmed from a dispute. While a specific motive has not yet been officially released, authorities have indicated that all three men were known to each other. The exact nature of their relationship remains part of the ongoing inquiry. With the perpetrator deceased, authorities have assured the public that this was an isolated event and that there is no outstanding threat to the community.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department continues to lead the case and is working to piece together the final timeline of events. Further details are pending the completion of the formal investigation report.
