A police officer in Maryville, Tennessee, has been left in critical condition after his motorcycle collided with a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) vehicle during a security operation for Vice President-elect JD Vance. The incident occurred Friday evening in the city of Alcoa, near Knoxville.
The Maryville Police Department identified the injured officer as Justin Brown, a 16-year veteran of the force. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Alcoa Highway and Pellissippi Parkway. Officer Brown was providing security for the motorcade when the collision with the THP trooper occurred. Vance was traveling from McGhee Tyson Airport but was not directly involved in the accident.
Immediately following the crash, Officer Brown was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where he was listed in critical condition. The Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper involved in the crash sustained only minor injuries and was treated at Blount Memorial Hospital. The THP has since taken charge of the investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
Vice President-elect Vance issued a statement expressing his concern and support. "My family and I are praying for the officer who was tragically injured today in a motorcade accident in Tennessee," Vance said. "We are grateful for the brave men and women of law enforcement who risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe." Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp also asked for prayers for Officer Brown and his family, describing him as a dedicated public servant. The community has shown an outpouring of support for the long-serving officer.
